TŌCHA - A medieval game favored by nobles and samurai
'Tōcha' is a popular game in the Middle Ages, in which people competed by tasting different flavors of tea. Being very competitive, it was also used for betting, so much so that the Ashikaga government issued a ban due to its popularity.
After a period of decline, in the Edo period it became a pastime for Kabuki actors and, in the tea world, it was integrated into the training of tea masters, continuing to the present day.
